Canoe checklist

When planning a canoe trip, assume that it can rain, and things can get wet!

-2 sets of clothing per person

-baseball hat (helps in sun, rain & with bugs)-

-shoes you don’t mind wearing wet (Teva type sandals or old sneakers work best).. another set for camp

-wool socks optional (if it rains.. they keep you warm in the boat)

-rain jacket or garbage bag (just poke through your arms and head and presto. .you have a rain jacket)

-flash light w/ extra batteries

-bug repellent and/or mosquito headnet ( you will look very silly but, they come in handy sometimes in camp if it is very buggy)

-sleeping bag w/ either an airmattress or foam pad( not essential but far more pleasant for grownups)

-tent-( some people may have extra space or you can borrow or you may be able to rent one at Eastern Mountain Sports or Campmor in Paramus)

-cooler- great way to pack your lunches + snacks (everything will stay cool for the weekend )

-cup, bowl, spoon (1 per person) plastic Tupperware or cool whip containers work great.

-food-you supply lunches, snacks, etc

2 sponges-for bailing your boat

How to Pack….

It is a good idea to place a large garbage bag within any suitcase or duffel bag or backpack you choose to use. Even Laundry bags work well. The key is to put the garbage bag IN (not over) the luggage. This way it can’t be punctured( and everything made soggy by the end of the day). This also applies to sleeping bags. All trip gear needs to be tied into the boats so bring rope or bungy cords along.

BRING A LOW BEACH CHAIR FOR THE MIDDLE OF A CANOE!!

FOR DAY TRIPS ON THE RIVER

ALWAYS HAVE…

Rain gear, fleece, windbreaker, lunch, 1 qt water, baseball hat, sneakers/sandles, wool socks, shorts, long jons (not cotton), Role Doct tape, bungie cord or rope.

ALL GEAR SHOULD BE IN 2 GARBAGE BAGS WITHIN a day pack
